Here's another one of my FAVORITE brands, not just because she's an Outlaw (but ok, MAYBE!), my girl Hillary Weiss, the genius behind Statement Piece Studio. She originally started out as a copywriter, but in the last few years, she's settled into a Creative Director-for-hire role. She's a spicy, opinionated, GENIUS, at pulling out a personal brand's... statement piece (a.k.a BIG idea).

As an Outlaw myself, I know firsthand that it's almost impossible for us to see cockeyed shit and NOT call it out - Hillary has perfected this.
When we don't like something, we're pretty quick to decide that it's the "things" problem and not us. The way she reframes shit she thinks is broken with humor + brutal honesty should be considered an art form.
An Outlaw brand is ALWAYS gonna come with a lot of "burns" around their area of expertise, which is what makes them so addictive to their kindreds (who are looking for sugar-free truths without all the self-importance BS).
Whoever rebranded freckles as sun damage is honestly the rudest person alive like damn let me feel cute with my lil spots 😭
Me meeting with my bookkeeper: Ok give it to me straight bro, just how hard am I fucking my money up rn?
My bookkeeper: Oh! You’re doing great actually. Super strong margins, and [insert other things bookkeepers talk about].

Endlessly “seeking the best strategy” is uuuusually just a very sexy form of procrastination.
The people who unlock extraordinary results with seemingly-ordinary tactics are the ones who show up, take their best swing, and figure it out. That’s why most of them can’t give you the process for exactly WHAT makes it all work, even when you ask directly.
They don’t know.
They’re doing it by feel at this point, most of the time. (Well, they can figure it out eventually — but it usually requires another person who specializes in fishing out what’s really going on. Like me. 😉)
Sure, there are foundational steps. But you already know those. As for the rest of it? The X factor? The it-factor?
It’s something in the cadence. It’s pattern. It’s being able to hear the music and catch the beat other people can’t quite hear yet.
It’s something you can’t figure out until you’re out in the wild for long enough to find it. So get out there. And stay out there. And go find yours.
Having a lot of feelings about America on America’s birthday but just remember y’all there is nothing more American than fighting fascism tooth and nail so let’s keep that train a-movin’. 💪🏻🇺🇸

One of the trickiest nuances to nail in any marketing messaging is talking to your customers vs. your colleagues.
Some of y’all are spending a good chunk of the page illustrating why this offer is the answer to your personal gripes with the industry, or that your way is CORRECT versus every other way, meanwhile your customers are like “Ma’am, this is a Wendy’s.”
Not to say critique isn’t appropriate sometimes for an audience with the necessary context and sophistication level… but a lot of you are wasting precious real estate demonstrating something your people don’t fully understand or care about.
When you go to the doctor with a broken arm, you don’t wanna hear the doctor wax on about how the ER waiting room is way too slow in the hospital across town, or that the head of the broken bones department is a real jerk. You’re like “Ow, my arm really hurts.”
So fix the arm first.

She's got one of my all-time favorite visual identities because it's so delightfully disruptive that it's pure perfection - capturing her deeply-rooted Outlaw ways perfectly. I mean, how many Outlaw brands do you see sporting a color palette with the three primary colors? You usually see these colors in a McDonald's playground ball pit.
She pulls it off like a queen!
Brand photoshoots are her bread + butter so it's not surprising that her photography is ON POINT. But, come on, the way she's integrated her colors across her photos... in her clothes, props, nail polish, etc. - it's so well executed, she makes me drool.
She's such a great example of breaking the expected norms when it comes to personality-focused design, so PLEASE stop telling yourself that certain colors, fonts, patterns, etc. go with certain shades of personality. It's not true! It's about what goes with WHO YOU ARE.
HOW YOU CAN USE hillary AS INSPIRATION
IN YOUR BRANDING (EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT AN outlaw BRAND)
✅ Instead of obsessing over the perfect brand name (and delaying the money coming in even longer), launch your brand as your name. LATER ON, when you're clear AF about the personality, passion, and positioning of your business, the perfect name will come to you (probably when you least expect it). When that happens, circle back and add it to YOUR NAME. Or, use it for your system and keep your brand name your name. Think: The Solopreneur Society With Dre Beltrami, or Statement Piece Studio with Hillary Weiss.
✅ Get them props out + your photo session on, Buttercup! Think: Hillary = disco ball, or Dre = booze. There are 1-2 items out there in the world that scream YOU. Figure out what those are because that's a big, solid gold part of the unique experience that's going to make your kindreds stop, drop, and happily hand over their money (over + over again)!

Brandish That Shit Loudly + Proudly
Your kindreds love learning from YOU because your unconventional ways are so contagious + inspiring that they help them break the rules that are making them feel like sheep.
Don't rob them of that realness, because THAT'S what makes YOU so delightfully different, ridiculously relevant, and unbelievably validating to YOUR people!
